Inexplicably located in the middle of the New Mexico desert near Socorro is the Very Large Array. The Very Large Array consists of 27 radio telescopes on railroad tracks all pointed in the same direction. The telescopes all move on the tracks depending on the part of the sky being scanned. Each antenna is 82 feet high and weights 230 tons.

An interesting visitor center is open to the public.
