Frank Redford created the first Native American themed Wigwam Village motel in 1933 located at Horse City, Kentucky.  Redford obtained a patent for his innovative building design in 1937.  Eventually seven wigwam villages were built.

The California Wigwam Motel was built in 1949 on Route 66, and now has a Rialto postal address. After many years of decay, the Rialo Wigwam has recently had a magnificent first class renovation.  Today, only three of the original motels remain: Cave City, Kentucky; Holbrook, Arizona; and Rialto, California.
