The Mojave Desert by moonlight. The moon is a point light source which creates distinct hard shadows, similar to the shadows from the sun. Moon cast shadows are possible to see only at night and after a long period of adaption to the low light levels. A photographic time exposure will record moonlit shadows almost identically to sun lit shadows. The stars are also visible at night during time exposures, creating an eerie juxtaposition.
