Design simplicity expresses only the most essential and necessary elements of a subject while eliminating unnecessary elements. Simplicity explores the essence and substance of things via a literal and objective aesthetic. Minimal design often reveals a lot by showing little. Superficially simple designs often camouflage underlying complexity. Although counterintuitive, minimalist design can offer high aesthetic appeal. Less is more. The design simplicity principle is related to minimalism, Japanese traditional design, Modernism, and Zen design.
