Permanently closed in 2015 after the passing of Otto Hasselbarth.
The La Palma Chicken Pie Shop first opened in 1955. The husband-and-wife team of Otto and Angie Hasselbarth took over the restaurant in 1972 and quickly built a loyal fan base. Otto Hasselbarth would come in early, around 4 a.m. because he did all the baking. He would go home to nap for about three hours and return around 1:30 p.m., working until the 8 p.m. closing time.
Customers were drawn in for the (best ever) flaky chicken pot pies, and well as the most underrated German chocolate cake in the county.
