Adjacent to the Jack Ranch Cafe near Cholame, California resides a James Dean Memorial Sculpture. The sculpture was commissioned and transported from Japan to the United states by visionary Seita Ohnishi. The tree is a specially planted tree of heaven or ailanthus.

The Jack Ranch Cafe is close to the the intersection of California Highways 41 and 46 where cult actor James Dean met his demise in a traffic accident at on September 30, 1955 at 5:59pm.

The California Department of Transportation has now designated the intersection of California Highways 41 and 46 as the James Dean Memorial Junction.
