Frank Redford created the first Native American themed Wigwam Village motel in 1933 located at Horse City, Kentucky.  Redford obtained a patent for his innovative building design in 1937.  Eventually seven wigwam villages were built.

The Holbrook Arizona Wigwam Motel was built in 1950 on Route 66. After many years of decay, the Rialo Wigwam has recently had a magnificent first class renovation.  Today, only three of the original motels remain: Cave City, Kentucky; Holbrook, Arizona; and Rialto, California.
